Soldiers are Home, 1899

From the February 17, 1899 Skidmore Standard:

The Soldiers are Home

The Fourth Reg. Mo. Vol. has been mustered out and most of the boys have returned home.  Of the seven who enlisted from Skidmore, five have returned.  Walter Baldwin was the first to arrive, he coming Monday evening.  Michael Freece and Mace McDowell came Tuesday evening and Shep Good, Wednesday evening.  A large crowd was gathered at the depot to meet the boys and they were cheered lustily, but none were Hobsonized.  Freeman Woods and Zion Yeary are yet in the south.  The Skidmore boys have a good record for orderly conduct, not one of them having been fined or served time in the guard house.
