Skidmore Defeats Fillmore, 1922

Sporting news from the January 26, 1922 edition of the Skidmore News (Skidmore, Missouri), page 1:

High School Defeated Fillmore.

The Skidmore High School boys defeated the Fillmore boys last Friday night on the court here, in what is said to have been the best game played here this season. The local girls’ team lost to the Fillmore girls. The following report of the boys’ game was published in Saturday’s Democrat-Forum, and meets with the approval of local fans:

One of the fastest high school basketball games that has taken place in the country this season occurred last night at Skidmore when the Skidmore High School defeated the team of the Fillmore High School by a score of 29 to 25. Skidmore has played seven games this season and has lost only one of them. Fillmore has won about nine games.

At the end of the first half the score was 17 to 13 in favor of Fillmore. During the second half, however, the Skidmore boys picked up and piled up the winning score rapidly.

The Skidmore lineup was: Goslee f, G. Beverlin f, Peoples c, H. Beverlin g, Karr g. Horn was put in during the second half in place of H. Beverlin.

The Fillmore lineup was: A. Hanner f, R. Hanner f, Neale c, Dysart g, Spicer g.

Martin Lewis of Maryville was the referee.

Mr. Lewis says that the game was a good one. He says that Skidmore has one of the fastest teams he has seen in action this season and that it is his belief that if Maryville is pitted against them that the local boys will have to play their best to win. Skidmore beat Maitland by a much wider score than Maryville did.
