Rural School Day

Whether your event is the 50 yard dash or the eating contest, there was something for everyone at the first Field Day meet of the Rural schools of Hughes Township in 1914.

From the April 23, 1914 Skidmore News:

Hughes Township Rural School Day

One of the largest crowds in the history of the town was present at Graham Saturday, it being the first Field Day meet of the Rural schools of Hughes township.  It was estimated that there were at least 200 pupils present, regardless of the fact that old Jupiter Plevius played havoc in the country and a goodly portion of the crowd stayed at home.  The patrons of the rural schools, as well as those in the town district, were greatly enthused over the meet.  Several of the patrons expressed their desire to make this an annual affair and to help make it more elaborate next spring.  Below is given a list of the winners in the different classes.
