Rev. Welton for Chaplain, 1908

From the Skidmore, Missouri New Era, December 17, 1908, page 8:

Urged for Chaplain Missouri Legislature.
The many friends of Rev. W. H. Welton are much interested in his candidacy for chaplain of the lower house of the legislature. Mr. Welton is one of the best known Methodist ministers in the Missouri conference. He retired from active work last year, temporarily, and would be in a good position to accept, should he see fit to.

He is an old soldier, with a long and honorable record, and during the latter part of the war was intimately associated with Gen. O. O. Howard in the management of the Freedman’s Bureau. Was at one time editor of the St. Joseph Methodist, an able church paper, a lifelong republican and would make a good chaplain.
