Porters Host a Lawn Party, 1909

From the June 17, 1909 Skidmore New Era (Skidmore, Missouri), page 9:

A Lawn Party.
A crowd of young folks went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Porter Tuesday evening, intending to surprise Misses Mattie, Edith and Mrs. Charles Larkin, but they had “got wise” to their coming and were all ready to receive them on their arrival.

The party was given to the two Misses Porter and their sister, Mrs. Charles Larkin, of Lapwai, Idaho, who has been visiting her parents and home folks the past few weeks. Mrs. Larkin will return to her home in a few days, and her sisters, the Misses Porter, will accompany her to spend the summer.

There were about a dozen couples present, going in Mr. A. Wells’ auto and a farm wagon with the side-boards on.

The guests were entertained on the beautiful lawn of the Porter residence, and the evening was spent in making candy and games of all kinds.

Needless to say that an enjoyable time was had. At a late hour the guests departed, thanking their hosts for the delightful entertainment and wishing Mrs. Larking a happy return to her home and the Misses Porter a pleasant trip for the summer.
