Mrs. Spahr Hosts Neighborly Club, 1921

From the January 20, 1921 Skidmore News (Skidmore, Missouri), page 1:

Neighborly Club Meeting.
The Neighborly Club spent a most enjoyable afternoon Wednesday, January 19th, at the home of Mrs. J. C. Spahr.

Mrs. Spahr was assisted in entertaining by Mrs. Ida Howden and Mrs. John Masters. The roll call was answered by questions, “how to make Skidmore a better place in which to live.”

The afternoon was devoted to the games and entertainment arranged by the hostess.

The first part of the afternoon was enjoyed by having an old fashioned school, Mrs. Spahr making an excellent ‘School Marm.’ At the close of school, the guests were informed that they were to go on a long journey, and were divided into groups of four. The stopping places were symbolical of the four seasons, the first representing winter, second spring, third summer, and the fourth fall, when the guests were again back home. At each stopping place refreshments in keeping with the seasons being represented were served in a most dainty and delightful manner. Of the four courses served it would be impossible to say which had excelled.

There were 27 ladies present and each expressed herself as having spent one of the most enjoyable afternoons of the season.
