Library Fundraiser, 1899

Literary and fundraising news from the January 27, 1899 Skidmore Standard:

To Enlarge the Skidmore Library

We are promised a nice first-class musical and literary entertainment, Friday evening, Feb. 3d.  Madame Fry, a talented vocalist, and her daughter, Miss Eugenie, a superior violinist, have been secured for that date through the efforts of Prof. Davis who will use the proceeds for buying books and apparatus for the school.

Last year a start was made toward establishing a library in our school, and at present there are about fifty volumes.  It is a very commendable undertaking and one in which all are interested; and a good way to manifest your interest would be to go and hear the ladies and in doing so, “kill two birds with one stone” — contribute to the library fund, and enjoy the evening’s entertainment.

We have not been so fortunate as to have a single good troupe in Skidmore this winter.  These ladies come well recommended and we believe they will give us a good entertainment.  Tickets are on sale at E. T. Duval’s store.
