Good for her

Are the store clerks getting fresh?  If so, you need the following advice from the Walnut Grove Banner, as retold in the Skidmore Standard, May 4, 1900:

The Mean Thing.

A young lady stepped into a store the other day and asked to be shown some dry goods, says the Walnut Grove Banner.  After examining the goods, she asked the “dude clerk” what the price was.

He smiled and said, “Four kisses per yard.”  The lady blushed and said she would take thirty yards.

The dude delighted with the bargain he had made, hurriedly wrapped up the goods and when the damsel started out she told the clerk to present the bill to her grandma and she would settle it with him.
