Easy Victory for Skidmore

The Sporting Editor gloats just a little bit, and the Skidmore team has an answer for the Craig team in the May 19, 1903 Skidmore Standard:

Wasn’t it a Shame?

An Easy Victory for Skidmore — Mound City Thought They Could, but Couldn’t.

Mound City’s crack ball team and about 30 fans reached our city Sunday afternoon with flying colors and great confidence of winning an easy victory, but their departure was that of the defeated for our boys trimmed them and did it easy.  The weather was not very favorable for ball playing, but a large and enthusiastic crowd was out to see us win another game.  It was an exciting game and might have been any body’s until the 8th inning when Skidmore went right after Mound City’s pitcher and sent 7 men across home plate.  This cinched the game as Mound City lost their grip and failed to score in the 9th.

The features of the game was the twirling of Ashbrook and the star catch by Baker.  Moore of Maryville, our 1st baseman, played a heady game.

Following is the score by innings:

Mound City  1 0 0 0 3 0 2 2 0 — 8.

Skidmore      0 4 0 0 1 0 0 7 x — 12.

Umpire, George Baker.  Attendance, 300.

Skidmore is starting out well this season having won four games and lost one.  They are now open for games with any strong team.
