Birthday Surprise for W. S. Linville

From the March 3, 1921 Skidmore News (Skidmore, Missouri), page 1:

Surprise for W. S. Linville.
Tuesday was W. S. Linville’s birthday, but since he is pretty busy at the bank just now, Mrs. Linville, ‘played safe’ and gave a surprise for him on Sunday. Mr. Linville didn’t exactly ‘get wise,’ but he knew Mr. and Mrs. Reese were coming Sunday, so he asked if there would be anyone else. Mrs. Linville said there would not. When he returned from Sunday School, he found that he had been misinformed. Of course Mrs. Linville wasn’t to blame for telling a little innocent falsehood under the circumstances — he shouldn’t have been so inquisitive.

Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Reese of Burlington Junction, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Linville, Mr. and Mrs. Aron Linville and son, Frances, W. E. Linville and family, Charles Brown and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jonas Brown and son, Ernest, Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Duvall, Mrs. R. A. Stevenson, Mr. and Mrs. George Stevenson, daughter, Ermil, and nephew, Basil Mitchell, Mrs. Arch Hitchcock, and Mrs. Hugh McClellan.
