We Should Organize

When Skidmore, Missouri residents put their mind to a task, they accomplish it. They were headed in that direction in 1916, too. Here’s an announcement from the November 30, 1916 edition of the Skidmore News, page 1:

We Should Organize
Last fall a committee of boosters give a name to our community. They called it United Community. Now what do you want it to do — “Drift with the tide,” whither? or shall we organize and get somewhere worth while? There is enough dormant energy in this community if organized and put to work to accomplish anything it wants in a business way, in a social way, in any way. There is enough good fellowship actually going to waste to cement this whole community into one big family. Go where you will you cannot find a place where natural conditions are better for a home. This is God’s country — why not get all that is coming to us?
