Watching Ice Melt, 1908

Advertising (and, we suppose, climate-related) news from the December 10, 1908 Skidmore New Era (Skidmore, Missouri):

Watch in Cake of Ice.
R. A. Walker had on exhibition in front of his store Saturday, a South Bend watch frozen in a cake of ice. This was done as a test showing that the cold temperature did not affect the running of the time piece at all. The novelty as a watch frozen in the center of a two-foot square cake of ice keeping perfect time attracted considerable attention. The watch run 40 hours without winding and kept accurate time.
