Thomas Wright Visits Skidmore

The Skidmore New Era (Skidmore, Missouri) often published notices listing who visited whom.  Visitors from out of town got special attention, as we see in this article from the June 1, 1911 edition on page 1:

Visits Missouri Friends.

Capt. Thomas Wright of Denison, Texas, is the guest of his brother, David Wright of Skidmore.

Captain Wright was an old soldier in the civil war and it was there he won his title.  He moved to Texas some forty years ago, and thinks that is about the best country on the face of the earth.

For many years Capt. Wright was United States Marshall in that wild Southwest land, which was the Mecca for so many outlaws and notorious characters in the early days of the country.  He is now warden of the state penitentiary at Denison.

Capt. Wright is not as strong a man as he has been in by-gone days and his years are beginning to tell on him.  He has been spending a few weeks at Excelsior Springs, Mo., recuperating his health and took this opportunity of paying his Missouri friends a visit.
