Swearingen Escapes from “Pen”
Irvin Swearingen, serving a seven-year term in the state penitentiary at Jefferson City, disappeared last Wednesday night, July 12. Swearingen was convicted of burglary and larceny in connection with the robbery of the Skidmore Garage September 1, 1920.
It is said that before being sent to the pen, Swearingen was a professional sprinter, and that last Wednesday evening he asked permission to do some training in the yards after supper. Permission was granted since his record has been good, he was seen running in the yards until dark, Later he could not be found, and prison officials stated that they believed he was hiding inside the grounds.
