From the July 11, 1918 Skidmore New Era:

Skidmore Boy Wounded

A message was received at Skidmore Monday afternoon, conveying official information to John V. Smith that his son, James H. Smith of Co. E. 159 Inf. had been severely wounded in action, June 23.

Henry, as he is known here, left with the quota from Nodaway county October 3, of last year and received training at Camp Funston, Kansas and Camp Kearney, California.  He left for France in April of this year and is the first Skidmore boy to be wounded severely.

He is about 28 years old.
