Quitman Hires Teachers, Graduates Students, 1922

From the Skidmore News (Skidmore, Missouri), May 25, 1922, page 1:

Quitman Hires Teachers.
W. A. Powers, who has been superintendent of the Quitman schools for the past year, has been re-employed at a salary of $1800, the same as he received last year.

Other teachers chosen for next year are: Mrs. Gertrude Van Velsen, principal, at $1500; Mrs. Charles Smith at $1350; Mrs. Ella O’Neal, primary, at $1350.

Commencement exercises were held Friday evening, when Carl A. Johnston, president of the school board, presented diplomas to a class of five. The commencement address was delivered by A. H. Cooper of Maryville.

The class is composed of Frank Slack, Pearl Hart, Iva M. Browning, Esther Harris and Mildred Dean.
The Quitman High School was raised from third class to first class during the past year.
