Social news from the March 4, 1909 Skidmore New Era (Skidmore, Missouri), page 1:

Pie Social at Scrub Oak.

Friday evening witnessed one of the nicest little socials at the Scrub Oak school house given in the country for some time.

The children rendered a very interesting program consisting of music and recitations for which their teacher, Miss Myrtle Smock, who drilled them for the occasion is highly complimented.

The pie supper was a success, netting the school about $18.00. Pies were auctioned off, bringing from 10 cents to $1.05.

One of the members of the school board, Henry McDowell, says that the order was excellent and everyone had a good time.
