Mrs. Nora Sewell was for many years the proprietor of Skidmore, Missouri’s Commercial Hotel. Here’s evidence of her hospitality from the January 2, 1913 edition of the Skidmore New Era:
Old Year Out, New Year In.
The old year was bidden adieu and the New Year ushered in at the New Commercial Hotel by one of those inimitable dinners given by Mrs. Sewell. Covers were laid for seventeen and all invited guests were present.
A very enjoyable time was had, toasts were given and responses made at the table and after dinner until midnight the time was quickly and pleasantly spent playing Some’r’Set.
With the arrival of the New Year the guests departed to their several homes wishing the hostess all the good there possibly be in store for her during the coming year.
Mrs. Sewell left for Kansas City some time later, but she returned in 1916, as we see in the January 6, 1916 New Era:
Hotel Under New Management
The Commercial hotel has changed management. The change taking place the first of the year. Mrs. Nora Sewell who owns the building but who has been residing in Kansas City for over a year and has returned to Skidmore and is now the proprietress.
J. W. Wilson and family, who have been in charge of the hotel left last Saturday for St. Joseph for a stay unti lMr. Wilson can get possession of a farm near Clearmont. Mr. Wilson is a good business man and we vouch for his success in farming.
We gladly welcome Mrs. Sewell to the best town on the map.
