No Speech Making Allowed

This sounds like our kind of picnic.  From the June 21, 1901 Skidmore Standard, page 1:

There will be a picnic in the grove west of W. J. Skidmore’s residence, July 4th.  Everybody should consider himself a committee of the whole and bring along all the available good stories, jokes, songs, gossip, — no speech making will be allowed — and the babies, and don’t forget the well filled baskets if you want dinner.  Come and enjoy yourself and make the rest of the folks feel the same way.  As the grove is small no teams will be allowed therein.
