Musk-Melons from Muscatine

From the August 31, 1911 edition of the Skidmore New Era (Skidmore, Missouri), page 8:

A Basket of Fine Musk-melons.

J. O. Miller received this week from the Huttig Sash & Door Co. of Muscatine, Iowa, a basket of fancy musk-melons, known as the Defender melon.  They somewhat resemble the famous Rocyford melon, but are a little longer in shape and the meat is of a deeper and richer yellow in color.  They are very fine in quality as we sampled one of them and can testify to their excellence.  The melons were grown on Muscatine Island in the Mississippi river, near Fruitland, Iowa.
