Most Exciting Game of the Season, 1902

From the August 8, 1902 Skidmore Standard:

Married and Single Men Play Ball.

Talk about your ball games, there was the warmest and most exciting game of ball of the season played here Wednesday afternoon when the married and single men “locked horns.”  The game was called at 3 o’clock and was closed some time that evening just before sundown, with the single men in the lead.  The score was 24 to 31.  Just how long the game would have lasted, and what number of scores would have been made, is impossible to tell, had it not been for the umpire who made some very rank decisions — some in favor of the married men and some for the single — in order to complete the game that afternoon.
