In this summer of no rain, we bring you a reminder of rainy days. From the June 23, 1903 Skidmore Standard:
The Burlington railroad has notified all its section foremen to mark the high water stage of 1903 on all mile posts, crossing posts, and other suitable places along their sections. This probably means that the Burlington proposes to inaugurate a system of track raising to escape as far as possible the ravages of future floods. It is said that at some points between Parkville and Kansas City they have to put in taller telegraph poles to enable them to find something tall enough to put the high water marks on.
