A progressive and up-to-date young man weds one of the belles of Holt County, as reported in the March 2, 1900 Skidmore Standard, page 1:

A Brilliant Wedding.

Mr. William M. Moody and Miss Mattie R. Smock, two estimable young people, were united in marriage, Wednesday, at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Smock, south of town.

The following account of the brilliant wedding was sent to the Standard:

“The wedding march was played by Miss Florence Hartman of Barnard.  J. W. Smock was best man and Miss Nellie Hartman, bridesmaid.  They were appropriately and elegantly dressed, and the uniting of the two hearts was lovely, and perfectly performed.  After the ceremony congratulations were extended, after which the guests were conducted to the dining room where a sumptuous feast was served, prepared by the unsurpassed Mrs. Palmer of Maryville.  There were about one hundred guests present.

The bride, Miss Mattie, is one of the belles of Holt county, sensible, courteous and kind to everyone. To know her is to love her.  She is also a graduate of the Stanberry normal and a very successful music teacher.

The groom, Mr. Moody, is well and favorably known and is one of the progressive and up-to-date young men of the 19th century.”

Mr. and Mrs. Moody were the happy recipients of many costly and beautiful presents.

They will be at home to their many friends after this week, 3 1/2 miles northeast of Graham.
