Miller Sale, 1912

From the November 7, 1912 Skidmore New Era, page 10:

Public Auction.

H. E. Miller and Roy Miller will sell their household goods at auction Saturday at 2:30 p.m.  These goods are practically new, if you want a bargain don’t fail to be there.  Roy Millers will sell 1 dresser, 1 dining table, 1 set dining chairs new, 1 davenport, 2 rocking chairs, 1 brass bed, 1 iron bed, 2 sets of springs, cook stove, etc.  H. E. Miller’s have 1 leather davenport, 1 leather chair, 3 rockers, 2 stands, 2 bed steads, 2 mattresses, 2 sets springs, 1 sanitary couch, 3 rugs, 1 dining table, chairs and kitchen cabinet, and other articles not mentioned.

The Millers advertised, both for the closing sale for their mercantile, and for the auction of their home goods:

Forced out of business. Will you come where one dollar does the work of two? Buy now for future needs. You owe it to yourself and your family. Now the sale of sales. The crowds are great and the excitement intense. Come to this sale and save $s. [The ad goes on to list prices on sale items and says "We are forced to give possession November the 2nd." The ad also reports a sale of household goods for the Millers and reports the results of the voting contest for a piano. Miss Bess Worl won the contest.

Public auction of merchandise. Having bought the Miller Mercantile stock at public auction at 59 cents on the dollar, we will proceed to sell the same at public auction starting Saturday, November 9 at 2:00 o'clock p.m., sharp. The entire stock must be sold at once to the highest bidder. Now is the time to get the goods at your own price. Col. Dives of Kansas City will be here to sell these goods and they must go. Now is your time -- your price is our price. Miller's Old Stand, Skidmore, Missouri.
