From the Skidmore News (Skidmore, Missouri), October 27, 1921, page 1:

Entertained at Dinner.
Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Straub entertained at dinner Sunday in honor of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. McCann of Spokane, Wash. Plates were laid for Mr. and Mrs. McCann; Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Deneen; Misses Hester, Marie, Pearl and Dorothea Deneen, of Maryville; Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Jones of Skidmore; Mrs. J. H. Thurston of Ashby, Neb.; Miss Nellie Jones and Mr. V. Ambrose of Sheridan, Mo.; the hosts and little son Jo.

Mr. and Mrs. McCann are motoring to Columbus, Ohio, where they will probably spent the winter visiting relatives and friends.

From elsewhere on that same page:

Visiting Here from Washington.
Mr. and Mrs. R. E. McCann of Spokane, Wash., who have been visiting in Nodaway county for about a week, spent Monday visiting Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Duvall and Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Jones. They will go to Columbus, Ohio, for a visit before returning home.

Mr. McCann taught school here a good many years ago, using the second story of the building now occupied by the Bank of Skidmore as a school room. He also taught in other parts of the county, having been superintendent of the Hopkins schools. He was county school commissioner for two terms.
