Keeps on Ticking

For those who are beginning their Christmas shopping, we offer the following potential gift from the December 10, 1908 Skidmore New Era:

Watch in Cake of Ice

R. A. Walker had on exhibition in front of his store Saturday, a South Bend watch frozen in a cake of ice.  This was done as a test showing that the cold temperature did not effect the running of the time piece at all.  The novelty as a watch frozen in the center of a two-foot square cake of ice keeping perfect time attracted considerable attention.  The watch run 40 hours without winding and kept accurate time.
