From the February 25, 1909 Skidmore New Era (Skidmore, Missouri), page 6:
Mrs. J. W. Stevenson, 64 Years Old.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Stevenson spent Sunday with their son George and family, west of town. This being Mrs. Stevenson’s birthday, the event was celebrated by visiting the old home place.
Mrs. Stevenson was born in Huntsville, Ind., Feb. 21, 1845. In the spring of 1869 she with her husband came to Missouri and settled on what was known then as the Niece farm, which Mr. Stevenson afterward bought, paying for the first 80 acres $6.25, for the second $6.75, and for the third 80, $15 per acre. This is one of the fine farms of this part of the country now, and worth many times its original cost. Mr. and Mrs. Stevenson came to Skidmore two years ago and own one of the most beautiful and neat residences in the city.
