Front Page News, July 1901

Oh, for the days when items like these made the front page! From the July 26, 1901 edition of the Skidmore Standard (Skidmore, Missouri):

A happy surprise was in store for Mr. and Mrs. L. N. Torrey last Saturday morning when their two daughters, Misses Carrie and Edith returned home from town. Mrs. A. J. Cramp had written to her sister, Edith, that she would arrive on the Saturday morning train and requested her not to say anything about it. Miss Carrie got onto the secret in some manner but did not tell her father and mother. The surprise of both Mr. and Mrs. Torrey when the two girls drove home accompanied by Mrs. Cramp, can only be imagined. Mrs. Cramp will remain here a week or ten days longer.
