Burns’ Artificial Limb, 1921

From the Skidmore News (Skidmore, Missouri), August 18, 1921, page 8:

Parnell Man Makes Artificial Limb.

W. I. Burns is working on an artificial leg for himself which when completed, will be one of the best on the market. It is so arranged that when walking one will not suspect it being other than of bone and flesh. The knee, ankle and toes will bend as natural as his own. He has been working on it for some time at his leisure hours and will soon have it completed. It is not as heavy as the artificial limbs you buy and is more durable. He expects to try and get a patent on it. — Parnell Sentinel

William I. Burns was granted U.S. patent 1,440,816 on January 2, 1923
