From the Skidmore News (Skidmore, Missouri), September 29, 1921, page 1:

Box-Supper Season Opens.
The first box and pie supper given by the rural schools of this community will be given at the Burr Oak school tomorrow night. Miss Helen Cottier is the teacher. There will be a box and pie supper at Union Star school (Miss May Sturm teacher) a week from tomorrow night. Advertisements of these two suppers will be found on page three of this issue.
