From the Skidmore News (Skidmore, Missouri), July 14, 1921, page 1:

Arrested Bootlegger Near Elmo.
Wm. McMichael, a farmer living near Elmo, was arrested on Wednesday night, July 6, when Sheriff Steve Roach, Deputy Sheriff Leo Atherton, and the mayor and city marshal of Blanchard, Ia., found a portion of a distilling outfit, a gallon jug of corn whiskey, and several bottles of the same liquid on his premises.

When the jug was discovered, McMichaels told the officers that he had found it where someone had hidden it. The bottles of liquor, he stated, he had stored for his own use and had forgotten that he had them.

The “tip” which was responsible for the search came from Blanchard when two intoxicated men arrested there told of having purchased liquor from McMichaels. Mrs. McMichaels is said to have admitted that her husband sold a quart of liquor to two men, receiving $8 for it.

McMichaels was lodged in the county jail to await trial in September term of circuit court, when he will be tried on four separate charges.
