We are sorry to have missed the magnificent fireworks, pulse-stirring music, and ball game (but perhaps not the callithumpian parade). Advertisement from the June 30, 1921 edition of the Skidmore News (Skidmore, Missouri):

The ad reads, “Big celebration, Monday, July 4th at Skidmore, Mo. Patriotic, pulse stirring music by the Skidmore Band. Callithumpian parade in forenoon. Eloquent address by Rev. C. M. Chilton of St. Joseph, Missouri. Games, sports, races, etc. Magnificent fireworks. Ball game — Wilcox vs. Skidmore. Home talent show in the evening. Come spend the day in the best town in Northwest Missouri.”
