Bennett-Porter

We celebrate the hearts and flowers of Valentines Day and warm the cold light of February by recalling weddings from years past.  Today’s comes from the March 4, 1915 Skidmore New Era, page 1:

Bennett-Porter

At 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at the beautiful country residence of Mr. and Mrs. George Porter three miles southwest of Skidmore occurred the wedding of their daughter, Bess, one of Holt County’s charming young ladies and successful school teachers, to Mr. E. Gordon Bennett, a very enterprising and industrious young farmer – a young man dearly beloved by all who know him.

There were no invited guests, but it was an unusually enjoyable affair, made so because it was very informal.  Rev. C. H. Sauceman of Skidmore officiated, using the beautiful ring ceremony.  After most hearty congratulations, a very dainty and well prepared three course dinner was served, the table being tastefully decorated with white and pink carnations.

Words fail to express the high esteem in which these young people are held.  We predict for this happy, cheerful and optimistic young couple a pleasant and successful voyage over life’s matrimonial sea.

They are at home to their many admiring friends two miles south of Skidmore where Mr. Bennett has large farming interests.
