From the Skidmore News (Skidmore, Missouri), November 3, 1921, page 1:

School Notes.
Ten Commandments of Basket Ball.

1 – Thou shalt honor the president and faculty, but the coach above all.
2- Thou shalt study thy lessons — at least enough to get by.
3 – Thou shalt serve as scrub and never murmur.
4 – Thou shalt not complain of any injury that doth not kill thee.
5 – Thou shalt watch the signals and not thy best girl.
6 – Thou shalt not flinch, even if thy opponent outweigh thee fifty pounds.
7 – Thou shalt not trip thy neighbor.
8 – Thou shalt not covet the captaincy before thy Senior year.
9 – Thou shalt not get the swell head when thou makest the winning goal.
10 – Thou shalt obey in all things, and at the last, if thy neck be not broken, thou shalt receive thy letter.
Would Skidmore win if she followed this set of commandments? Well, we think she would. Think of these things in our next game.
