From the July 10, 1919 Skidmore News, page 1:
Last Monday was Rev. Hugh McClellan’s 48th birthday and that event was celebrated one day earlier gby the membership of the Christian church congregation by the taking of baskets filled with good things to eat when they went to the Bible school and preaching services and after the close of the morning worship, serving a dinner on tables that were placed in the church.
A mammoth birthday cake, crowned with 48 flags was placed before the pastor and, as a fitting ending of the pleasant meal, the cake was cut and each one present given a piece.
The good Bible school, the splendid church service and the dinner that followed were thoroughly enjoyed.
