It’s all about location, location, location, and when there’s no location to be had, the town loses businesses. From the June 14, 1906 edition of the Skidmore New Era (Skidmore, Missouri), page 1:
Patterson Goes to Maitland.
Skidmore is to lose her bakery. Since E. A. Patterson purchased the oven from Mr. Weston he has been unable to secure a room suitable to the business at this place. For this reason he will move the oven to Maitland the latter part of the week. This is a good point for a bakery and it is unfortunate for both Mr. Patterson and the city that he was unable to find a location here.
