As High as an Elephant’s Eye

From the July 21, 1899 Skidmore Standard:
Last week the Maryville Tribune contained an item stating that some farmer had brought in several stalks of corn which measured 8 1/2 feet in length.  J. V. Parrish read the item and informed a Standard representative that the Maryville man would have to quit his crowing or else grow bigger corn.  Mr. Parrish said he has corn that measured 11 1/2 feet high, last Friday.
