A Splendid Record

From the May 11, 1900 Skidmore Standard, with the other big news on page 1:

A Boy’s Splendid Record.

Roy Cottril is the 15 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Cottril, northwest of town.  He is a modest, manly boy, not seeking newspaper notoriety, but the daily register of the district school which he attends discloses a remarkably good showing after his name and we deem it worthy of some mention.

In addition to helping on the farm in spring and summer, he does chores in winter and manages to attend the eight months term of school regularly.  During the past three years he was present twenty-three and one-half months; and in all this time he missed only 1 1/2 days.  This loss was occasioned by accompanying his father to Chicago with cattle.
